Do you have students who require a great deal of one-to-one teaching time due to limited reading skills? Well this is a great packet to use to support student development of short vowels. This multisensory lesson is based on the principles and research of The Orton Gillingham approach, a multisensory, explicit, sequential, and cumulative approach, which incorporates repeated and continual review of skills. Short vowels for many students can be problematic, and require continual review and reinforcement.
The multisensory lessons including cue cards of each short vowel, book marks for student in keep in a folder to quick reference, and multisensory activities that can be used in a class setting, independently, small group, or whole class are included. Well this is a great learning tool to support students learning after initial presentation, and directions, with less teacher directed time. There is a great opportunity for students to also increase memory and recall, while becoming more independent!

This multisensory PDF formatted lesson focuses on the spelling generalization where the letters are added to one syllable words ending in "ch." When there is a word ending in "ch" but does not have a consonant letter before it, the letter "t" is added. However, the sound of the "t" is silent.

Know the Code: Coding Words for Identification & Meaning
This is a free PDF document that focuses on the "basics" of coding unknown, or unfamiliar words. Too many students lack the basic knowledge of the different types of syllables. The syllables include: closed; open; Vowel Consonant "e," Bossy "R," Vowel Teams, Diphthongs, and Consonant - le (c-le).
Once students know the code, identifying words becomes less anxiety-ridden, helping students to read words without having to ask another person.

Students love to play the game, and do not realize each time the game is played, learning is occurring! This activity can be played with a partner, or small group. If students do not want to do, please refrain. Why? Students with memory, processing, and visual difficulties will struggle and usually become frustrated. But high school age students often go to this page first because they enjoy word searches. Word searches help to internalize the spelling of the words, by slowing down and repeatedly saying the letters/sounds of each word.
